We are hiring a Full-Time Permanent Manager Project Management Office (PMO) position working out of Edmonton, AB.
As the Manager of the PMO, you oversee the governance and operational excellence functions of EPCOR Distribution and Transmission Inc. (EDTI)’s PMO. Leveraging your expertise, you provide governance on EDTI’s projects and programs by interpreting and implementing relevant organizational policies, procedures, and best practices in project management. You collaborate with your business area to enhance organizational project management knowledge and ensure proper alignment.
Your leadership and relationship skills are essential as you guide your team and regularly interact with all levels of management and functional areas within EDTI, contributing to the success of the organization’s capital delivery model. You can simplify technical and complex information, making it clear and understandable for your audience. You’re a team player while you provide direction and motivate others. You take pride in the work you do.
This position may be eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work program.
What you’d be responsible for
- Developing and implementing project management business plan while ensuring appropriate alignment with the Finance team and business area’s objectives.
- Creating, coaching and managing a high-performing team by developing their skills, setting expectations and deliverables and being a role model.
- Understanding and interpreting corporate and business unit policies and directions (e.g. financial, regulatory, legal, etc.) to develop appropriate governing processes and practices for Distribution’s project management and oversight.
- Enhancing and maintaining EDTI’s record management function to capture and store project-related information, supporting future learning and improving project execution capabilities.
- Managing project scheduling and resource balancing to develop and report performance metrics, enhance capital planning processes, and optimize resource loading and balancing using P6 scheduling software at the EDTI portfolio level.
- Assessing project teams’ knowledge gaps in project management and facilitating learning activities to bridge these gaps. Providing training and ongoing support to Project Managers, leadership, and other stakeholders to enhance their ability to sustain good practices.
- Collaborating with the EDTI Project Controls group and operations to define and oversee project performance, resource planning, and productivity metrics. Key metrics include regular reporting on financial performance, scope targets, progress, and schedule compliance against the annual plan through monthly performance and variance reporting meetings.
- Developing and managing systems and tools required for effective portfolio and project management. This includes:
- Developing and maintaining Project Management manuals
- Developing and providing project and work management training
- Defining and standardizing processes, practices, systems and templates
- Setting up systems for project evaluation against strategic objectives
- Providing business ownership of IT systems from project and work management context, including but not limited to document management software (Aconex), IVARA, SharePoint, P6 Scheduling and resource planning software, Oracle Projects and associated Oracle Business Intelligence Dashboards.
- Organizing, reviewing and submitting accurate and timely project documentation to ensure that financial approvals are being obtained prior to spending and that all necessary background information is captured at all levels (SVP, Financial Review Committee and Board submissions).
- Researching, evaluating and documenting industry standards and best practices to identify opportunities for improving EDTI’s capital delivery system, ensuring continuous improvement in capturing, developing, and executing projects.
- Leading improvement initiatives within project and work management context
- Actively representing EDTI in the Organizational Project Management (“OPM”) community and work collaboratively to advance the effectiveness and standardization of associated project management processes and tools.
- Serving as the subject matter expert for IS support on existing project-related systems (ORACLE Projects, ORACLE BI, MS Project, IVARA, and SharePoint) and overseeing the evaluation and implementation of new project, program, and portfolio management applications as needed
What’s required to be successful
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Business (Finance or Accounting), Engineering or Construction Management.
- A Project Management Professional (PMP) or other PMI designation is an asset.
- 10+ years of related experience in the area of project management, business analysis and/or data analytics.
- 10+ years of related experience in the area of project portfolio, resource planning and scheduling and program management.
- Experience in a regulated utility environment would be considered an asset.
- Experience with distributed infrastructure would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated work ethic, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills in project management and investment planning context.
- Experience in providing or facilitating training would be considered an asset.
- Experience in delivering successful process improvements would be considered an asset as well.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Project, Visio, SharePoint and Outlook)
- Demonstrated experience with work management systems, such as IVARA.
- Strong familiarity with Oracle Applications including Oracle Projects, Oracle Business Intelligence (BI), or similar financial or enterprise resource systems.
- Excellent understanding of Project Management principles and methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience P6 scheduling software or equivalent.
- Demonstrated skill with process development, process mapping and compilation of training or process documentation.
- Experience using and managing financial and operational data in a spreadsheet and/or database environment.
